Carrera slot cars Carrera cars are designed primarily to run on the wider Carrera track which also has a larger slot. With new cars Carrera supply an alternative shallower blade for use on other non-Carrera brands of track . For other older Carrera cars you need to file a couple of millimetres off the bottom and also a light shave off the sides of the guide blade, and also, if your circuit uses radius 1 curves, take a few millimetres off the rear of the guide blade too (see photo), as it's a bit longer than a Scalextric blade and will get stuck in the slot on tight corners. Takes about 5 minutes. They can be converted for Scalextric Digital using the F1 chip in most cases - note older Carrera cars often have a lot of extra wiring inside so this usually needs removing to find space for an SSD chip, see note below.
Ordering Carrera items from this store Due to space limitations we can only keep a small amount of Carrera stock, so inevitably this will be the most popular items, and items that are compatible with Hornby Scalextric. They make such a wide range of models and at three different scales it's impossible to cover all bases. But if you have a particular requirement having browsed the catalogue, please drop us a note via the contact form or via the Live Help button and we can check availability and price with the UK distributor and get back to you, usually the same day.
Chipping Carrera F1s for SSD The inside of a Carrera car is a bit different from Scalextric so here are some top tips for getting these F1 cars running on SSD if you want to do the chipping yourself rather than get it done here. 1. Start with getting the guide blade sorted. If it's a new car, swap the blade with the one in the spares pack that comes attached to the display case. If it's an older car or you don't have the official alternative blade, pop the blade out, cut off the rear and trim the bottom and sides. Use an existing Scalextric blade as a guide to how much to trim by. Push the blade around your track slots by hand to test, then replace in the car. 2. Remove the body and lift out the big green Carrera circuit board and switch if present. Cut it off the car (four wires) leaving you with enough wire still in the car to play with. Now you have two wires going to the front and two to the motor, so you should be in familiar territory. 3. Fit a C7005 retro-fit chip, approximately as you would to any other non-DPR car , adjusting wire lengths as necessary. You should be able to arrange the wiring so that the chip lays flat under the driver position. Position the LED in the opening in the underpan behind the guide blade and hotglue into position. Check it works on track. 4. Refit the body, job done. If you prefer, choose the option to have the cars upgraded for you and we will do the above before shipping.
