Scalextric event hire businesses If you are thinking about setting up a part time or full time business offering Scalextric racing to the public on a mobile or fixed-venue basis, or adding this to an existing events company portfolio, that's an area we have done a fair bit of work in - using Scalextric equipment - and are happy to advise on. We can design a layout for you, digital or multi-lane analogue, and of course obtain all the cars, track and spares you will need, brand new, to make your event business a success and also help you prepare for any pitfalls that may come your way by advising on aspects such as marshalling, spares and general practicalities of running Scalextric events - a complete one-stop-shop service for the Scalextric bits.

If you don't mind some driving, lifting and shifting, circuit assembly/disassembly and organising racing sessions for kids and/or adults, running these events is very enjoyable and can generate a reasonable income. And if you stick to saloon cars and avoid F1 cars for public racing, you can also keep repair costs down too. Circuits can be designed to fit on baseboards of a size you specify (maybe in several sections), or you can assemble the track on folding tables each time you set it up. Please note we don't provide any carpentry, scenery building, shopfitting or event staffing services, you will need to find these skills locally.

In terms of rough costs, this varies wildly but we have kitted out a variety of these kinds of operation over the years, and the most common spend is between around £1500 to £2500 for a decent size digital layout (at least around the size of a billiard table) with 6 car capabilities, and including cars, controllers, computer software etc. and also including a range of spare cars and equipment. With every hire probably bringing in a few hundred pounds (depending on the market you are aiming at and the competition in your area), the investment is repaid quite quickly and you will have a lot of fun doing it too. However make sure you do your sums and work out a proper business plan before jumping in.

Repairs service If you have been running public events and have ended up with a lot of cars "in bits", why not get in touch regarding getting us to put them back together again for you. "We are the pits! :)". Where possible, replacement underpans, wings, etc. can be obtained and fitted, or where parts are not available, we may be able to cannibalise some of the most damaged models to provide the necessary parts to make some complete cars.

Cars for events If you are looking for cars for public or promotional events, may we recommend the following: a) Super Resistant Cars - in the yellow bar above, click "search" and then select "Super Resistant = Yes" - these are the most sturdy of standard cars with the fewest pieces to break off. b) Start range of saloon cars - see the Scalextric Start link in the margin. These robust models can also be decorated to your own tastes. They run on all Scalextric track and can be digitalised with retro-fit chips. c) Pro Performance Kit cars - see the gift sets and kits link in the margin - these plain white cars can also be decorated to match hand controllers or sponsors' colours, and come with some spare parts as well.

Special orders, corporate events Many of the UK's corporate Scalextric entertainment companies use us for their track, cars, general supplies and advice. If you are considering using Scalextric products in a promotion, educational or corporate event, please get in touch in good time. Maybe you want a large quantity of cars or sets as gifts or prizes. Perhaps you have decided to turf your car out of the garage and make a monster layout for yourself and the family. Or maybe you are organising a public racing challenge for charity. We can usually arrange for large orders to be placed but generally at least a month or so's notice will be needed; and that assumes sufficient stock is available or scheduled to arrive before you require it. Some items we will be able to supply from stock and others we will back-order for you. Please note that in November and December it can be hard to source large quantities of track at short notice - you would be best to wait till the New Year after the Christmas peak demand is over. Let us know what you need and we will make enquiries for you and see what can be arranged. If you have requested something that is no longer available, we will suggest some alternatives. Payment for bulk orders is required up front in full to enable stock to be released to us - we will take a credit card payment though, and there is a good discount on the regular prices.

This is the circuit designed here (shown in the diagram above) turned into reality at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Looks very smart! We also provided all the track and cars (Focuses) for this special Ford Motor Co display. Kaleidoscope circuit This is another layout designed here and built by corporate entertainment company Kaleidoscope Events. This particular layout is built on two MDF sections which come apart and then lock together for transport and storage. A challenging 4-car analogue layout with equivalent lane lengths to ensure everyone has a fair chance of winning.

Cannell Graphics Cannell Graphics are an exhibitions company who produce a number of these small analogue display tracks for their banking clients around the world, using equipment supplied by Slotcarcentre and a track layout designed here to fit within specific stand measurements.

STIG Racing STIG Racing is a new South-west based Scalextric hire operation we have been assisting to set up their service, including designing the layout and providing all the track and cars. If you are in the South Devon area you can try out their 3 lane 6 car digital racing circuit, see their web site for details.

Abu Dhabi circuit Early in 2009 we were also approached for assistance with building this layout (scroll down a few screens past the F1 images) for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, an enquiry which we redirected to Hornby's own marketing department because of its sheer size. Good to see it did get built though!

Scalextric in your loft, shed or garage It seems hardly a month goes by without someone asking us for advice on building a giant Scalextric layout in a garage, shed or loft. We have experience of all these, so you are welcome to call and see if we can offer some pointers as to what sort of circuit to build, layout considerations, scenery and so on. If you think you, your family or friends will be making a long term investment in Scalextric then a permanent layout is definitely worth considering. Although it takes longer to set up initially, you will get more play value in the longer term and you will be able to just go and race, rather than have to worry about putting the track together first. We can of course supply all the track, borders and accessories you need, and where necessary we will obtain some boxed sets for you as these can be a cheaper way of acquiring the required track and cars. If you are using some of your own track, let us know what pieces you already have and we can tell you what packs you need to order. If you need it in a hurry we can design the layout around track items and sets that we have in stock or can quickly obtain. Each layout will be presented in a plan showing the track pieces required.

Recent slot car events The Brooklands circuit in Surrey hosted a slot car event in August 2009, hosted by James May, in which a new world record for a continuous slot car track was set. Here are some of the volunteers laying the track around the Brooklands banking, under the Members' Bridge This is the Scalextric track laid up the Brooklands Test Hill.
